Planning a trip to the Maldives or a Maldives honeymoon? The Six Senses Laamu is one of my favorite resorts in the world, which is the reason why when it came to deciding where to honeymoon, my fiancé and I both thought of one place – The Six Senses Maldives. We had been once before and knew that it was total heaven on earth, epitomized relaxation, and that the overwater bungalows there are second-to-none, which made it all too easy to decide to honeymoon here. If you’re wondering what staying at the Six Senses is like, or comparing the Six Senses to other resorts in the Maldives, you came to the right place!

STAYING AT THE SIX SENSES LAAMU
The vibe
Barefoot luxury. The Six Senses has a unique deserted island castaway vibe to it. It’s also super eco-luxe, and prides itself on its one-of-a-kind emphasis on sustainable luxury.

At Six Senses Laamu, you can do it all, and nothing at the same time. It’s the perfect place to strike the healthy vacation balance between the two. Your bike to breakfast and morning paddle board or surf session can balance out that deliciously decadent breakfast buffet. You can try a new yoga class while taking in stunning views, or dive into your new beach read before diving into the sparkling turquoise sea of your dreams. Your afternoon snorkels and manta ray dives are balanced with sunset champagne & canapes. You can enjoy the privacy of your overwater bungalow or walk over to get a pizza made in paradise and 2 for 1 margaritas at Sip Sip. You can even get dropped off at a completely private sandbank island for the day, complete with a set-up umbrella, beach chairs, and cooler.
A vacation at Six Senses is truly a choose-your-own adventure, and at the end of each fun-or-relaxation-filled day, you’ll melt into your mattress blissful, content, and maybe just a little bit sunburned.
The rooms at the Six Senses Laamu
The overwater bungalows are 1300 sq. feet and have the option to feature a private overwater infinity pool and panoramic view of the Indian Ocean’s unforgettable endless blues.
My absolute favorite part about the overwater bungalow at the Six Senses is that you can dive right into the ocean from your bungalow deck, and the views of the pool at sunrise were unbelievably gorgeous. ALSO – THIS GLASS BOTTOM BATH TUB!
The room is also stocked with a pillow menu to choose your perfect pillow (seriously, a PILLOW MENU, now that’s luxury), a butler, and every amenity you could ever wish for.
What a trip to the Six Senses Maldives actually costs
Room rates are $1,700 – $2600 a night (February), around $1500- $2,000 (in April), and around $1700- $2300 a night (November 2021). The lower range are room options without pools which are cheaper than the overwater bungalows with pools. Check exact rates for your dates here.
The cost of food at Six Senses Laamu:
full board at the time of this post – includes lunch and dinner – is $222 per adult, $111 per child
half board – includes dinner – is $148 per adult, $74 per child
breakfast is included in all rates
The cost of the airport transfer at the Six Senses Laamu:
$1200 or so per adult, less for children, at the time of this post. This is pricey – but all hotels’ transfers are in the Maldives. This is for a CHIC VIP seaplane transfer, which is going to be a huge highlight of your trip!

Which room did Jetset Christina stay in at the Six Senses Maldives?
Our room category at the Six Senses Laamu was the Overwater Villa with Pool. We were at the end of a jetty, with sunrise views. You can also have sunset views. It was unbelievable to be at the end of the jetty because you have the most privacy.
The service at Six Senses
The staff at Six Senses Laamu feel more like friends than staff. They are jovial and fun, and we loved them so much!! They really make you feel like Laamu is your home, which is why we came back for a second time!
The staff even offered to take some awesome couples pics of us! Love that.
The activities at Six Senses Laamu
Six Senses Laamu is known for its snorkeling and diving, especially. The wildlife is so beautiful here. You can really tell their emphasis on sustainability shows in the abundance of wildlife all around. We had amazing snorkeling (turtles, fish, sharks!) right outside of our bungalow.
If you’re a beginner surfer (or have never surfed before) it’s a great place to start and learn surfing! They have a TropicSurf right on property.
We LOVED the sunset dolphin cruise and highly recommend it! We saw so many dolphins. But even if you don’t get lucky, it’s a fun sunset cruise with champagne.
A couples massage at the spa is a must – it’s super serene and jungley – it was one of the best massages of my life!
A must-do for couples on their honeymoon in the Maldives if you like wine is the sommelier wine pairing dinner, which we LOVED, located in their overwater wine cellar (so cool).
And our absolute favorite activity at the Six Senses was a day getting dropped off at a private sand bank ($200 per couple for a few hours on a private sandbank off of the resort, complete with a cooler, umbrella, and lounge chairs set up for you. This was a DREAM!
The food + drink at Six Senses Maldives
The food and drinks at the Six Senses Laamu are very, very good – you definitely won’t be disappointed by the food here. For our trip, we were half board which means breakfast and dinners are included in our room rate (not including alcohol, there’s no all-inclusive option here, or at most places I’ve been in the Maldives). We especially loved the cocktails at Sip Sip Bar (they have a great bartender there and he was whipping up some of Kenny’s favorite pina coladas EVER!), and they had a great selection of wine, too (though at a 5-6X markup, which is typical in the Maldives).
Food highlights were definitely the sommelier dinner (at an extra cost), the lobster BBQ, the chic treehouse-style LEAF restaurant, the sushi restaurant, as well as the breakfast buffet – which is incredible!!
I also LOVED that in half-board you could choose to have breakfast in your villa, too (at no extra cost). Mornings like this? Yes please.
The island of Laamu
The private resort island of Laamu is bigger than most resort islands, making it fun to explore and get around. You’ll be given a personalized bike for your stay that you can ride around the island – which is so fun! The island is big!! they even have their own gardens where they sustainably plant all their own herbs and vegetables to use in the food. I highly recommend taking the sustainability tour if you have time to learn more about how they keep the island sustainable! It’s a great tour.
What is the clientele at Six Senses Laamu like?
We definitely saw a lot of honeymooners and couples, and many families with small children (we traveled in December, a popular time for families to get away to the Maldives), and surprisingly quite a few solo travelers – this is a really great resort in the maldives for solo travelers looking to relax, disconnect, dive, learn to surf, etc. Lots of UK, not a lot of Americans at all (I think we were the only ones).
What to expect when you arrive to Six Senses Laamu
You’ll fly into Male, where you’ll be met by a Six Senses Laamu representative who will get you on your next domestic flight (45 mins) to Laamu. This is a domestic flight not a seaplane so it’s a little less glamorous, but you still get great views). You’ll arrive to a domestic airport where you’ll catch a speedboat to the hotel, and they’ll serve you towels and delicious refreshing lemonade in beautiful Six Senses branded glass bottles (you won’t find ANY plastic used at this resort!).
Sustainability at Six Senses Laamu
The Six Senses is easily the most sustainable resort choice in the Maldives. They are leaders and trailblazers in resort sustainability practices, and are setting the standard for eco-luxury for the entire hospitality industry worldwide, with their mission to be a completely sustainable resort. The resort’s values focus on protecting their paradise environment and benefitting the communities and ecosystems around them. Their sustainability manager is wonderful and leads popular tours of the “back house” of the resort, where you can see everything from their desalination tanks that provide drinkable water derived from the sea for the entire island, to how the island creates its own energy to run the resort. They’ll tell you how all soaps, shampoos, etc, used at the resort meet the highest standards of biodegradability, and are all all-natural and non-toxic. They are striving to be completely plastic-free by 2022, and use no plastic bags, straws, or even plastic toothbrushes, on their island, instead, they’ll find a sustainable way to do everything, such as creating bamboo straws and toothbrushes, and only using glass bottles throughout the resort (did you know that glass comes from sand, and thus can be recycled into sand infinity times?). They even their own gardens, filled with vegetables and herbs used in their restaurants, and have a food waste composter that uses the food waste from the resort to help fertilize said garden.
If you want to feel good about your luxury vacation, this is the resort for you.
