Where to Stay in Punta Mita, Mexico

Punta Mita is an ultra-luxurious, exclusive beachfront village located on the Sea of Cortez on Mexico’s gorgeous west side. Situated on a private peninsula in the beautiful Riviera Nayarit, just 40 minutes north of Puerto Vallarta, Punta Mita is the place celebrities go to get away from it all.

More tropical and understated than Cabo San Lucas, and more exclusive than its neighboring Puerto Vallarta, the gated Punta Mita is a beachfront oasis home to multimillion-dollar villas, 15 residential communities, two Jack Nicklaus Signature golf courses, a tennis center, and of course, some of the best luxury hotels in Mexico.

Located just 10 miles away from the better-known (and way more crowded) vacation spot of Puerto Vallarta, you’ll love Punta Mita for its understated vibes and luxurious accommodations.

Where to stay in Punta Mita

The best resorts in Punta Mita in my opinion are the St. Regis and the Four Seasons. They’re both amazing for different reasons, and I highly recommend them both!

The St. Regis Punta Mita

The pool when you walk into the St. Regis Punta Mita is, in a word, breathtaking.

The St. Regis, true to their worldwide brand, is famed for its contemporary luxury and extraordinary hospitality. The service at this resort is out of this world – and you even have a personal butler throughout your entire stay, available (by text!) 24/7. This 120-room beachfront property is stunning and the casita-style feature private terraces, expansive marble bathrooms, soaker tubs, and spacious balconies. I LOVED this resort. Also the spa was incredible.

The Four Seasons Punta Mita

Located within a highly private, 17 million square foot estate, the Four Seasons boasts two big stretches of beach on Mexico’s Pacific Coast. The infinity pool, beach, spa, and food are all huge highlights here- and the resort’s restaurant, Dos Catrinas, is a gorgeous two-story restaurant putting a modern spin on Mexican gastronomy (like street tacos, YUM!), and with a stylish cocktail lab and bar upstairs.

The vibe of the Four Seasons Punta Mita is Mexican hacienda meets a luxe jungle lodge meets a tropical beachfront resort. It’s one of the most gorgeous pieces of land I’ve ever stayed in, and the beaches and atmosphere are hard to beat anywhere else in Mexico.

It’s also great for families – and they even offer tutors available for “schoolcations” if your kids are virtually schooling.

There’s also an on-site sea turtle rescue program, and if you’re lucky, you can see sea turtles hatching and making their way to sea during your stay – so beautiful!

The best VRBO’s, Airbnbs and luxury vacation homes in Punta Mita

For LUXURY with a group – this beautiful 18,000 square foot house is hard to beat. This amazing beachfront gated villa with a full staff of twelve people and a professional chef included sleeps 26 people (!!!), so if you’re heading down with a big group, a bachelor or bachelorette party, or a corporate retreat, this may be your spot.

Casa Del Faro

Casa Del Faro is where we stayed for our Kenny Flowers team retreat this year and it could not have been a nicer villa for a group in Punta Mita! The service MADE the trip, and the bartenders, chefs and butlers were absolutely incredible. With 10 bedrooms, incredible privacy and seclusion, and an address in the  most sought-after part within Punta Mita’s gates, this luxury home is located right on the water, with a stunning infinity pool. The suites are absolutely breathtaking, and super spacious. Highly recommend!

Make sure to tell them Jetset Christina sent you and tell the staff that I say hi!

Casa Buddha – sleeps 8

Casa Buddha offers the best of Porta Fortuna’s Zen Casitas living, sweeping ocean and golf course views, a private pool and plenty of outdoor terrace space.

Is it safe to travel to Punta Mita, Mexico?

Punta Mita is a completely gated community, with a TON of safety measures in place – they have tightened security in recent years, and I have never felt unsafe at any of these resorts I’ve mentioned here. While Mexico tends to get a bad rap when it comes to safety, it’s important to note that most violence occurs outside of tourist areas, and far from the gated community of Punta Mita and the resorts that I’ve featured here on this list. Safety is a huge priority to these places and I’m confident you won’t feel unsafe at one moment during your stay. As I say with anywhere that the media tends to call “unsafe”, don’t let your fears stop you from seeing the world!!

What should I not miss on a trip to Punta Mita?

While you can spend your whole trip relaxing on the beaches, definitely consider hiring a boat to take you to Islas Marietas!! And I would recommend renting a car so you can explore the colorful village of Sayulita one day.
