All About Rosewood St. Barths – Le Guanahani Hotel Review
We just got back from a trip to St. Barths and a stay at Rosewood Le Guanahani and I’m so excited to tell you all about it! If you’re planning a trip to St. Barths and trying to figure out which hotel to book, I’m here for you! After spending half of our trip at Rosewood Le Guanahani as a family, I can confidently say it’s one of the most magical properties in the entire Caribbean, and easily one of the best hotels in St. Barths. Le Guanahani is the kind of place that has you instantly relaxing the moment you step onto the property, and has you already saying “let’s come back every year” one night in.
In this in-depth Rosewood Le Guanahani honest review, I’m sharing everything you need to know before you book, the things I wish I had known before my stay, who this hotel is best for (spoiler: pretty much everyone, but especially honeymooners and families!!), and how to book Rosewood Le Guanahani St. Barths with exclusive VIP perks (hello free breakfast, $100 resort credit, room upgrade and more all at no cost to you!) through my travel agency.
Let’s get into it!
What is Rosewood Le Guanahani St. Barths Like?
St. Barths has long been on my bucket list, and choosing where to stay honestly felt overwhelming. The island is small, there are so many boutique, beautiful hotels, and the prices are big! So when you commit to a hotel here, you want to make sure it’s the right one. The PERFECT one.
Rosewood Le Guanahani sits on its own private 18-acre peninsula on the northeast side of the island, which is a pretty unheard of footprint for St. Barths. It’s the largest resort on the island, but at only 66 rooms, it is still very intimate and tucked away. The property has two private beaches, two pools, multiple restaurants, a Sense Spa, tennis courts, a kids’ club, a dreamy mini ‘hike’ overlooking the beach, and the kind of warm, French-Caribbean service that makes you feel like you’re staying at a friend’s incredibly chic island home.
It was originally a beloved family-owned property for decades before Rosewood took over and completed a full top-to-bottom restoration in 2021. The result is a property that has all the contemporary luxury (and family-friendliness) you’d expect from a Rosewood, but still retains the colorful, soulful, distinctly St. Barths character that made the original Le Guanahani such an island icon. The colorful pastel cottages are exactly the kind of nostalgic Caribbean architecture you don’t get at most modern luxury hotels, and I LOVE that they kept them as the heart and character of the property.
Where Is Rosewood Le Guanahani Located in St. Barths?
The hotel is on its own peninsula on the northeast side of the island, on Grand Cul-de-Sac, which is about a 15-20 minute drive from Gustavia (the main town) and about 10 minutes from St. Jean (where the airport and a lot of the shopping/restaurants are).
The location feels worlds away from the rest of the island in a great way. While St. Jean and Gustavia can get bustling, especially during high season, Le Guanahani is its own little world of calm oasis. You drive through the lush mountains of St. Barths, arrive at the gates, and instantly feel relaxed.
The property is set on the Grand Cul-de-Sac lagoon, which is one of the most beautiful (and protected!) bodies of water on the island. The lagoon is incredibly calm and shallow, with crystal clear turquoise water that is perfect for swimming, paddleboarding, snorkeling, and especially for kids. And the best part? there are a TON of turtles in this lagoon! And the water is so clear you see them all!
The water sports center on the beach offers complimentary use of paddleboards, kayaks, snorkel gear, and more, plus you can take a kitesurfing or windsurfing lesson with their on-site team (the lagoon is one of the best spots in the Caribbean for these sports!).
How to Get to Rosewood Le Guanahani
Getting to St. Barths is part of the adventure! There are no direct flights to St. Barths from the US, so most guests fly into either San Juan, Puerto Rico, or St. Maarten, and then take a short connecting flight to St. Barths on a small plane. The flight into St. Barths is famously dramatic – the runway is short, the approach is steep, and it’s beautiful!
The other option is taking the ferry from St. Maarten, which takes about an hour each way and gets you to Gustavia harbor, but can be very rough. Personally, I’d highly recommend you take the plane – it’s much faster and easier.
Once you arrive at the St. Barths airport (SBH), Rosewood Le Guanahani is just a 10 minute drive away. The hotel can arrange airport transfers, or you can grab a taxi directly at the airport. If you want to rent a car for your stay (which I highly recommend so you can explore the rest of the island), you can pick one up at the airport when you arrive. Or if you want to rent a Moke, I did that through the Rosewood concierge and they pick up/drop off the moke right on property! So easy!
The Rooms at Rosewood Le Guanahani
Rosewood Le Guanahani has 66 suites spread across the property, ranging from one-bedroom suites all the way up to a 4-bedroom estate villa. Every single one was redesigned during the 2021 restoration, and they all have either ocean, lagoon, or garden views, with private terraces, plunge pools or full pools (depending on category), and beautiful Caribbean-meets-French interiors. They are stunning, modern, and even have Dyson hairdryers inside. (Score).
The colorful pastel cottages are spread out across the lush 18 acres, so you really do feel like you’re staying in your own private little villa rather than in a typical resort layout.

Room Category Breakdown at Rosewood Le Guanahani, St. Barts
One-Bedroom Suites – The entry-level option but still incredibly spacious and beautifully designed. Perfect for couples or honeymooners. You’ll find these in lagoon, ocean, or garden view categories.
Signature Two- and Three-Bedroom Suites – These are perfect for families or groups traveling together. You get connecting suites with multiple bedrooms, a shared living/dining area, and a big private outdoor space. These are where you get the bonus resort credit if you book through me ($200 instead of $100!).
The Garden House & Bougainvillea Suite – These multi-bedroom configurations have a master bedroom, two connecting bedrooms, expansive private terraces, and private pools. Ideal for larger families or multigenerational trips.
The 4-Bedroom Estate Villa – If you want the ultimate splurge, this is the move. It’s a full estate on its own piece of the property with a private pool, private chef availability, multiple bedrooms, and a dedicated team. Honestly perfect for a multi-family trip or a special celebration.
The Pools at Rosewood Le Guanahani
In addition to the two beaches, the property has two pools:
The main pool – Set near the beach, surrounded by palm trees and lounge chairs. This is where you’ll find more of a social vibe, families with kids playing, and beach service from Beach House restaurant just a few steps away.
The adults-only Sense Spa pool – For guests who want a quieter, more peaceful swim experience without kids.
Plus, several of the higher-category suites and villas have their own private plunge pools or full private pools, too
Restaurants & Dining at Rosewood Le Guanahani
The food at Rosewood Le Guanahani is great, and there are three main restaurants on property, all overseen by Chef Cedrik:
Beach House
The flagship beachfront restaurant, with three distinct dining areas (indoor, outdoor with the view, and a more casual seating area). Open all day for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The menu is a beautiful fusion of French Mediterranean and Caribbean flavors – lots of fresh local fish, mezze-style shared plates, beautiful salads, perfectly cooked steaks. I thought the breakfast on property was good, but could have been better, if I’m being honest (I am a coffee snob and wished they had better lattes!)
Beach Club
The casual all-day beach bar and grill was great! Great cocktails and lunch options. Think wood-fired pizzas, fresh ceviche, salads, burgers.
Bartolomeo
The hotel’s Italian-inspired restaurant, with handmade pasta, wood-fired pizza, and beautiful Italian wines. Yum!!!
In-Villa Dining & Private Chef Experiences
If you’re staying in one of the larger suites or villas, you can even have a private chef prepare meals in your villa, which is such a beautiful option for a special occasion night or just for one of those “I don’t want to leave the room” evenings.
The Sense Spa at Rosewood Le Guanahani
The Sense Spa at Rosewood Le Guanahani is a destination unto itself. It’s tucked into the lush gardens of the property and is sooo tranquil.
A few of my favorite experiences here:
The Signature Massage – Done in one of the open-air treatment rooms with the ocean breeze coming through. So good.
The Candlelight Jetty Yoga – This is so special and so unique to Le Guanahani. You do a private yoga session at sunset on a jetty over the lagoon, surrounded by candles. So magical.
The Body Polish & Massage Combo – I love getting this on my first day to fully exfoliate and unwind after travel.
If wellness is a big part of your trip, definitely build in time for the spa here. I’d recommend booking treatments before arrival because the spots fill up fast, especially during high season.
Activities & Things to Do at Rosewood Le Guanahani
Even though the property is beautiful enough that you could happily never leave, there’s actually a ton to do both at the hotel and around the island.
Activities ON property:
- Complimentary water sports (paddleboards, kayaks, snorkel gear)
- Windsurfing and kitesurfing lessons (the lagoon is one of the best spots in the Caribbean!)
- Tennis on the property’s clay courts
- Hiking the trails of the peninsula
- Yoga, pilates, and fitness classes
- Sunset boat charters
- Complimentary kids’ club for ages 4-11
- Babysitting available
- Spa treatments
- Romantic dinners on the beach
Activities OFF property:
- Day trip to Gustavia for shopping and dining
- Beach hop around the island’s other famous beaches (Saline, Gouverneur, Shell Beach, Colombier)
- Day boat charter to ÃŽle Fourchue or Colombier Beach (only accessible by boat)
- Lunch at iconic St. Barths beach clubs (Nikki Beach, Shellona, La Plage, Bonito)
- Hiking up to the Pointe Milou area for sunset views
I always recommend renting a car for at least a few days of your stay so you can explore the rest of the island. St. Barths is small but there’s so much to see and so many gorgeous restaurants and beaches you don’t want to miss.
Who Is Rosewood Le Guanahani Best For?
Rosewood Le Guanahani is one of those rare hotels that genuinely caters to multiple types of travelers without compromising on any of them. Here’s who I think it’s most perfect for:
Families with Kids
This is where Le Guanahani really sets itself apart from many of the other luxury options in St. Barths. The Explorers kids’ club is incredible (ages 4-10), the lagoon is the safest, calmest, most family-friendly beach on the island, the connecting suites and villa options make multi-bedroom configurations easy, and the team genuinely loves kids. So many luxury St. Barths properties feel more couples-focused, but Le Guanahani has cracked the code on being family-friendly without ever feeling like a “family resort.” It’s still very chic.
Honeymooners & Couples
The romance factor here is OFF the charts. Between the two private beaches, the candlelight jetty yoga, the private dinners, the beautiful spa, and the spacious suites with private outdoor space, this is one of the most romantic hotels in St. Barths. If you are honeymooning or a couple, I would stay away from Spring Break timing or holiday timing, when it is mainly families here. The other times of year, it is totally fine!
Multigenerational Groups
The big villa configurations (the Garden House, Bougainvillea Suite, and Estate Villa) make Le Guanahani one of the only properties on the island where you can have a multi-bedroom luxury setup with private pool, multiple bedrooms, and the option for a private chef. If you’re traveling with parents, grandparents, kids, all together, this is one of the best options in the Caribbean.
Wellness-Focused Travelers
If you want a trip centered around the spa, yoga, fitness, and reconnection, Le Guanahani delivers. The Sense Spa is exceptional, the wellness offerings are robust, and the property is so peaceful you’ll feel reset within a day.
Who Is Rosewood Le Guanahani NOT For?
I want to be honest here too, because no hotel is for everyone! Here’s who might want to look elsewhere:
Travelers who want to be in the heart of the action. If you want to walk out the door and be in the heart of Gustavia’s nightlife and shopping, Le Guanahani isn’t the move. You’ll need to drive 15-20 minutes to get there. That’s part of what makes the hotel so peaceful, but it’s worth knowing.
Party-focused travelers who want a scene-y, see-and-be-seen vibe. Le Guanahani is more about peaceful elegance than St. Barths party scene. If you want a more buzzy hotel where you’re surrounded by that, Eden Rock or Le Barthélemy might be a better fit.
Travelers on a very tight budget. St. Barths is expensive, and Le Guanahani is firmly in the luxury category. There are no budget options on this island, but it’s worth noting that Le Guanahani is (properly) priced as a top-tier luxury resort.
When Is the Best Time to Visit Rosewood Le Guanahani?
St. Barths has two main seasons:
High Season (mid-December through April): This is the most popular time to visit and the weather is at its very best – warm, sunny, very little rain, and lower humidity. It’s also the most expensive and the hotel books up far in advance. Christmas/New Year’s is particularly bonkers – book over a year out if you want to come during the holidays.
Shoulder Season (May, June, November): My personal favorite times to visit! The weather is still gorgeous, the prices are more reasonable, and the island feels less crowded. May is especially beautiful.
Low Season (August through October): This is hurricane season in the Caribbean, and Rosewood Le Guanahani actually closes for part of this period for annual maintenance and refurbishment. Worth noting before you start planning!
