The BEST Healthy Chocolate Mousse Made with Avocado! Erewhon Copycat Recipe

So last week I was in Los Angeles and made a trip to my absolute favorite health food market, Erewhon. I always pop in there anytime I’m in LA because they have the BEST, freshest food and I’m obsessed. I wish they had one in my hometown of Charleston! This time, I picked up a raw chocolate mousse because I had a little sweet tooth and was intrigued by this ‘healthy’ chocolate mousse. How would (or could!) it really compare to one of my favorite all-time desserts – decadent chocolate mousse. But it was INCREDIBLE. So good, so rich, so creamy. You would NEVER believe it was as healthy as it is if you didn’t see the ingredients used. So, of course, I snapped a photo of the ingredients list and got to work in my kitchen on creating the perfect copycat recipe. This indulgent, yet somehow healthy, chocolate mousse is now a dessert staple in our house, giving us the perfect after-dinner treat, without any guilt. It’s great for anyone with dietary requirements like vegans or anyone skipping dairy, and is also great for kids, who would never guess that it’s a healthy dessert! Give it a try – you guys are going to love it.

So why would you want to make a chocolate mousse from avocados anyway?

It is an amazing vegan, healthy option for creating a rich, creamy mousse without any dairy! Making it a perfect dessert for people who are vegan or who just stay away from dairy but still want a rich creamy sweet treat after dinner. This dessert is full of healthy fats and is SO delicious you would NEVER know there are avocados in it. The avos blend up with cacao powder, vanilla, a little healthy sweetness from coconut sugar, and a few other raw ingredients making it an easy no-cook dessert you can whip up in minutes. And another giant plus? You only dirty the food processor or blender, nothing else! Count me in.

What are the ingredients for vegan chocolate mousse?

Cacao powder (or cocoa powder, but cacao has extra health benefits as a plant-based superfood).

Vanilla (I always use high quality vanilla in my baking, this is my favorite brand).

Coconut oil

Sea salt (I love this brand of sea salt flakes)

A splash of oat milk, almond milk, coconut cream, or any milk alternative

Perfectly ripe avocados

Coconut sugar

Maple syrup

What’s so great about this chocolate mousse?

It’s super easy to make in your blender or food processor in just a few minutes. I like to eat it after it’s chilled for an hour or so, but you can enjoy it right away if you want to!

You can make it ahead of time, or for a group. Store your healthy chocolate mousse in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two days, and enjoy the decadent treat whenever you get a craving!

It’s deliciously creamy, but is dairy-free and full of healthy fats from avocados and coconuts!

You can adjust the sweetness to fit your tastes! Feel free to taste test as much as you want and add more or less maple syrup and coconut sugar to your mousse depending on how sweet you prefer it.
