Six Senses Yao Noi Hotel Review – Should You Stay Here When in Phuket, Thailand?

Six Senses Yao Noi Review: Luxury Jungle-Meets-Beach Resort in Thailand

When we were looking into traveling to Thailand for the first time, I considered soooo many resorts. From deep-diving into Koh Samui vs. Phuket, vs. other islands, to then locking in on Phuket and realizing just how big the island is, I was neck deep in tabs of research, text threads with friends who had been there, and decision paralysis. Until I realized that just outside of Phuket, a short boat ride away, is Six Senses Yao Noi.

It was like all of my dreams came true. I wanted a resort that would have a great beach, great pools, great rooms, and feel quintessentially Thailand. Six Senses Yao Noi felt like an escape from the world, in the best way. It was DREAMY! So here is my full review, including who I think this hotel is best for, and who I think would be happier at other resorts in Phuket (more recs there below as well!)

Where is Six Senses Yao Noi in Thailand?

Located on the quiet island of Koh Yao Noi in Thailand’s Phang Nga Bay, this resort feels like a private sanctuary surrounded by dramatic rock formations rising out of beautiful turquoise water. It’s about a 40-minute speedboat ride from Phuket, but once you arrive, it feels like you’ve traveled much farther – the pace slows, the scenery becomes surreal, and the outside world fades away.

Six Senses properties are known for their philosophy of sustainable luxury and their ability to create a strong sense of place (which is something I always look for in a hotel – I don’t want a hotel that feels like it could be anywhere!!!), and Six Senses Yao Noi does that beautifully. It’s the kind of resort that doesn’t just offer a beautiful place to stay, it creates an experience that feels deeply connected to Thailand, and the little island of Yao Noi.

First Impressions of Six Senses Yao Noi

Getting to Six Senses Yao Noi is part of the magic.

After arriving in Phuket, you’re whisked into a pre-arranged taxi then taken by speedboat across Phang Nga Bay. As you leave the Phuket marina and main island behind, your views become nothing but a stunning horizon of towering limestone cliffs rising out of beautiful blue waves, with tiny jungle islands scattered across the bay, and old wooden Thai fishing boats floating along between them.

By the time you arrive at the resort’s dock, you already feel like you’re somewhere very, very special.

The property itself is built into the hillside, with villas tucked into tropical jungley greenery overlooking the ocean. The design, in true Six Senses fashion, blends beautifully with nature: think wood, open-air spaces, and architecture that feels like it’s a part of the jungle.

The Villas at Six Senses Yao Noi

Our villa felt like a private jungle treehouse. We didn’t have a view of the bay (those were all taken for our dates due to my last-minute planning! Do as I say and not as I do and lock this one down if you know your dates!) but it was honestly so special as it was, even without the ocean view!

Like all Six Senses properties, the design of the rooms emphasizes sustainability and connection with nature. The villas feel incredibly secluded, surrounded by lush greenery, and some of the more ocean view ones offer sweeping (breathtaking!!!!!) views of the water and the iconic limestone islands of Phang Nga Bay.

Every villa includes:

  • A private infinity pool

  • Outdoor shower

  • Large open-air living space

  • Daybeds and loungers overlooking the bay

The villas feel incredibly peaceful in a way that’s increasingly rare to find while traveling. So yes, it is pricey but it is WORTH IT.

The Pool (and THAT View)

The main pool at Six Senses Yao Noi is a truly epic setting and easily one of the most breathtaking hotel pools I’ve ever seen. I think it might be my number one in the world.

I mean…..

WOW

How do you beat this?

Perched high above the bay, the pool looks directly out toward the dramatic limestone formations that define this part of Thailand. It’s what you IMAGINE when you decide to travel to Thailand – and here it is, all yours. The view is so striking that it genuinely stops you in your tracks the first time you see it. And every time.

Photos barely capture how spectacular it is in person!

This is one of those places where you could easily spend an entire afternoon simply swimming, relaxing, and taking in the scenery.

It’s also incredible at sunrise – and I hiiiiighly recommend watching the sunrise there each morning of your stay.

Restaurants at Six Senses Yao Noi

The food at Six Senses Yao Noi is excellent and very much aligned with the Six Senses philosophy: fresh, seasonal ingredients with an emphasis on local flavors.

Many of the ingredients used throughout the restaurants are sourced locally or grown on-site in the resort’s organic garden. Thai dishes are beautiful, fresh, and delicious. There are even chickens on property that lay all the eggs!!! (and if you have kids they can walk over to visit the farm and grab eggs that they hand the chef at breakfast to make – so cute and fun and special!!)

The dining here feels refined but relaxed.

Here are the different restaurants on property:

The Living Room
The resort’s main restaurant and where breakfast is served. It’s beautiful – open-air with views over the bay and offers a mix of Thai dishes and international favorites throughout the day.

Nithan
The resort’s Thai restaurant focusing on traditional southern Thai flavors. This is the place to go if you want a more authentic Thai dining experience in a slightly more intimate setting.

The Hilltop
The most dramatic dining location on property, perched high above the resort with sweeping views of Phang Nga Bay. It’s especially beautiful at sunset and one of the most memorable dinner settings at the resort!

The Den
A beautiful sunset cocktail lounge set beside a lily pond, perfect for pre-dinner drinks or a quiet nightcap after dinner.

Mai Thai Beach
A more casual beachfront dining option where the resort occasionally hosts themed dinners and beach barbecues right by the water.

In-Villa Dining
One of the perks of staying in a private pool villa is enjoying meals in complete privacy. The resort offers full in-villa dining, which is perfect for a slow breakfast by your pool or a romantic dinner overlooking the bay.

There is also free ice cream at the ice cream parlor each afternoon! so fun.

Activities and Experiences

While the resort itself is incredibly relaxing, and a great place to not do too much, there’s also a lot to do if you want to explore.

Some things you can do nearby are:

  • Island hopping through Phang Nga Bay

  • Kayaking through limestone caves and lagoons

  • Visiting nearby fishing villages

  • Wellness treatments and spa experiences

  • Sustainability tours and cooking classes

The surrounding area of the islands around Phuket are truly one of the most beautiful landscapes in the world!

Is Six Senses Yao Noi in Thailand Family Friendly?

Yes it was, but it’s worth understanding the overall vibe.

During our stay, the resort was definitely baby-friendly, but it was also extremely quiet. There were definitely a few other families with babies and toddlers, but not many older kids.

The atmosphere felt much more like a honeymoon destination or romantic retreat than a traditional family resort with large kids’ clubs and activities.

That said, the villas actually work beautifully for families thanks to their private pools and spacious layouts. For families traveling with younger kiddos or babies who enjoy slower travel, it can absolutely be a great fit.

Six Senses Yao Noi vs Six Senses Samui

Many people trying to decide between Six Senses properties in Thailand compare Six Senses Yao Noi and Six Senses Samui.

Both are incredible resorts, but they offer very different trips!

Six Senses Yao Noi

  • Dramatic scenery

  • Feels extremely secluded

  • Jungle-meets-ocean atmosphere

  • Super peaceful and serene

Six Senses Samui

  • Located on Koh Samui

  • Easier access via airport

  • Livelier island environment

  • More traditional beach destination feel

If you’re looking for something that feels truly remote and unique, Six Senses Yao Noi is the more spectacular setting, it will be the resort you talk about for years and years.

What is the Best Time to Visit Six Senses Yao Noi?

The best time to visit is generally between November and April, when the weather is sunny, warm, and relatively dry.

Thailand’s rainy season typically runs from May through October, though showers are often brief and the landscapes become incredibly lush during this time.

If you want the calmest seas and best boating conditions in Phang Nga Bay, winter and early spring tend to be ideal.

What are the Best Villas at Six Senses Yao Noi

If you’re deciding which villa to book, the view category matters.

Some villas face the jungle while others overlook the dramatic limestone formations of Phang Nga Bay.

The most desirable options are the Ocean Panorama Pool Villas, which offer unobstructed views of the bay and the famous karst formations. These villas provide the most iconic scenery and are well worth it if you want the full Six Senses Yao Noi experience.

How to Get to Six Senses Yao Noi

Most guests arrive via Phuket airport.

The typical arrival process looks like this:

  1. Fly into Phuket International Airport (HKT)

  2. Transfer to the Phuket marina

  3. Take the resort’s 40-minute speedboat transfer across Phang Nga Bay

The boat ride itself is actually one of the highlights of the trip.

The service at Six Senses Yao Noi

The service at Six Senses Yao Noi was really lovely overall – warm, kind, and very genuine in that relaxed Thai way that never feels overly formal. Each villa is assigned a “GEM” (Guest Experience Maker), which is essentially your main point person during the stay and acts a bit like a personal butler. Our GEM helped coordinate things like buggy pickups around the property, dinner reservations, and excursions, and was always available (after 8AM) if we needed anything. Most communication happened via WhatsApp, which made everything really easy and quick. It’s the kind of service where you don’t feel constantly checked on, but things just seem to happen smoothly in the background — which is exactly the style of service I prefer.

Are guests allowed at Six Senses Yao Noi

NO! Only guests of the hotel are allowed on property. This is something that isn’t written anywhere so I wanted to make sure I noted it here. If you are thinking of staying nearby and visiting Six Senses for lunch or anything like that or just taking a peek at the beautiful pool, you will NOT be able to do so unless you are a guest of the hotel. This rule is extremely strict and keeps the hotel very private and serene.

Is Six Senses Yao Noi Worth It?

In short: yes!!!!!!!!

Six Senses Yao Noi is one of those rare resorts that truly delivers on the promise of a luxury travel experience.

The combination of extraordinary scenery (seriously, breathtaking), thoughtful design, sustainability-focused philosophy, and a deeply relaxing atmosphere creates something genuinely special.

It’s luxurious without being flashy, exclusive without feeling pretentious, and deeply connected to its natural surroundings.

If you’re planning a Thailand honeymoon, romantic getaway, or simply want to experience one of the most beautiful resort settings in Thailand, Six Senses Yao Noi absolutely deserves a spot on your list, and definitely reach out to me to help book it with free perks and upgrades!
