Your Maldives travel advisor

The Maldives is my favorite destination in the world. I've been many times (on a two-week resort tour, on our pre-honeymoon, and with our baby and my parents), and it's where I book many of my most discerning clients' honeymoons, anniversaries and birthday trips. As a Maldives travel advisor with SmartFlyer, I help you choose the right island out of hundreds, and when you book through me you get VIP perks like daily breakfast, a resort credit and an upgrade when one is available, at no extra cost.

Planning the Maldives is hard for a first-timer. Every resort is its own private island, the transfers range from a speedboat to a seaplane to a domestic flight, and the meal plan can change your whole budget. Here's how I plan Maldives trips, the resorts I've stayed at, and how to book yours with me.

Or book it yourself on my private portal (password: JETSETTERS).

Two ways to work with me

Plan Your Full Maldives Itinerary, or Just Book the Resort

In the Maldives, the flights, transfers and timing make or break the trip, so most of my clients have me plan the whole thing. If you just need the hotel, I'll book it with the BEST VIP Perks (at no cost to you) and the best rates.

Why book with me

Why Book the Maldives With a Travel Advisor?

Free VIP perks.

Daily breakfast for two, a resort credit at most properties, an upgrade on arrival when available, and early check in or late check out.

The right island.

Some resorts are better for snorkeling, some for surfing, some for families and some for pure privacy. I'll match you to yours.

A great house reef.

If you want to snorkel from your villa, this matters a lot, and not every luxury resort has one.

Transfers and timing.

I plan your flights so you arrive as early and leave as late as possible, and I factor in the seaplane or domestic flight from the start.

Your villa, chosen carefully.

End-of-jetty villas, sunrise versus sunset, pool or no pool. I know the difference, and I ask for the best placement for you.

The process

How Planning the Maldives With Me Works

01

Tell me about your dream trip.

Send me your dates, who's traveling and what you're celebrating (or just the vibe you want, if you're still deciding where to stay). The form at the bottom of this page comes straight to me.

02

We pick your plan.

Tell me if you'd like the full itinerary or just the hotel. For full planning, you sign on and I get to work on the research, planning and coordination.

03

I send your drafted itinerary.

Within 2 weeks of signing on, you'll have a drafted day-by-day itinerary with the resort and villa I'd book, your flights and transfers, vetted tours and my restaurant picks. We fine-tune it together until it's perfect.

04

I book it and VIP you before you land.

I send you a secure card authorization and lock in your room. You pay the hotel directly, so you keep your credit card points. Then I'm your direct line to the hotel team, sharing your celebration, your preferences and your arrival time.

Where I've stayed

The Maldives Resorts I've Stayed At (and What I Tell My Clients)

I've also ranked the best resorts in the Maldives by tier, from Cheval Blanc Randheli and Soneva Jani to Joali, Milaidhoo and Gili Lankanfushi, with my honest take on each. Read the best luxury resorts in the Maldives, ranked.

Six Senses Laamu

Best for barefoot luxury, snorkeling, scuba and sustainability

Six Senses Laamu is the one I recommend for travelers who want barefoot luxury, world-class snorkeling and scuba, and a resort that takes sustainability seriously. Kenny and I loved it so much on our first trip that we've been back multiple times. We stayed in an Overwater Villa with Pool at the end of the jetty with sunrise views, and you could dive into the ocean straight from the deck (with turtles and sharks right outside!). Don't miss the sunset dolphin cruise, the sommelier dinner in the overwater wine cellar, the sustainability tour, and a few hours on a private sandbank. Read my full Six Senses Laamu review.

The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli

Sleek, modern and opulent

We split our pre-honeymoon between Six Senses Laamu and the St. Regis Vommuli, and they're two very different experiences. The St. Regis is sleek, modern and opulent, while Six Senses is barefoot, eco-luxe and more approachable. Here's my honest comparison: St. Regis Vommuli vs. Six Senses Laamu.

One&Only Reethi Rah

Best for families

On our most recent trip, we traveled with my parents and our baby boy and spent our first few days at One&Only Reethi Rah. Our villa had a huge private plunge pool, and the house reef was incredible (we saw so many friendly sharks, and even a family of nurse sharks right outside our room!). It's a boat ride from Male, so you skip an extra flight, which is a huge win with kids. See my guide to the Maldives with a baby.

Insider tips

My Insider Tips for the Maldives

Factor in the transfer.

Seaplane, domestic flight or speedboat, it affects both your time and your budget, so I compare it up front.

Stay a night near Male if your flights don't line up.

It maximizes your time at the resort.

Plan flights to arrive early and leave late.

I pack a swimsuit in my carry-on so I can start enjoying the resort before my room is ready.

Choose a resort with a great house reef

if snorkeling matters to you. At One&Only Reethi Rah, we had a family of nurse sharks right outside our room.

Don't island hop too much.

One or two resorts, and four nights minimum for a first trip.

Go half board.

On a private-island resort, the hotel is the only place to eat, so breakfast and dinner included makes the trip so much more relaxing.

Spend a few hours on a private sandbank.

It was our favorite thing we did at Six Senses Laamu.

Bring sunscreen and snacks.

Everything at the resorts is pricey (I once saw an $80 bottle of sunscreen!).

What My Honeymoon Clients Say

“It was literally the best honeymoon we could have imagined!! Every single hotel was amazing - the service, the food, the views, the people - all perfection! Every single restaurant you recommended was amazing and right up our alley. AND the transfers could not have been more flawless! Seriously not having to think/coordinate anyone picking up us, getting us through the airport, and taking us to each hotel was a game changer and made it feel like such a treat of a vacation!! Cannot thank you enough for making this our dream honeymoon! The boat day in Santorini and the cooking class in Paros were definitely some highlights but everything was fabulous!”

Questions

Maldives Travel Advisor FAQs

Do you need a travel agent for the Maldives?

You don't need one, but the Maldives is the destination where an advisor helps most. There are hundreds of resorts, and the right one depends on the house reef, the transfer (seaplane, domestic flight or boat), the meal plan and who's traveling. I've stayed at many of them, and booking with me adds perks like daily breakfast, a resort credit and an upgrade when available, at no extra cost.

Do you plan full Maldives itineraries?

Yes! I can plan the whole trip: the right resort (or two), your international flights and seaplane or domestic transfers, timing so you arrive early and leave late, vetted experiences like sandbank days and dolphin cruises, and a detailed day-by-day itinerary. If you only need the resort, I can book that with VIP perks too.

What is the best resort in the Maldives?

Six Senses Laamu is my favorite place I've ever stayed, and Kenny and I went back for our pre-honeymoon. For the ultra-exclusive tier, Cheval Blanc Randheli is at the top of my ranking. For families, I love One&Only Reethi Rah, which is a boat ride from Male so you skip an extra flight.

How many nights do you need in the Maldives?

My absolute minimum for a first-timer is four nights. I recommend one or two resorts at most, because every transfer takes time (and money).

When is the best time to visit the Maldives?

I've had nothing but sunshine and a few scattered showers in September, and a full day of rain in December, so weather can surprise you any time of year. I'll help you pick dates and a resort that fit your trip.

Is the Maldives good for families?

Yes! We took our baby boy to One&Only Reethi Rah with my parents and loved it. With little ones, I recommend a beach villa over an overwater villa for safety, and a resort with a great kids club.

Should we get half board in the Maldives?

On a private-island resort, the hotel is the only place to eat, so I usually recommend half board (breakfast and dinner). It makes the trip feel so much more relaxing when you're not watching every bill.

Does it cost more to book the Maldives with a travel advisor?

Booking your hotel with me is complimentary. There is no fee and no markup, ever, and you pay the same rate as booking direct (or better), with the perks on top. Full itinerary planning is available for a planning fee. Inquire for details.
