Everything You Need To Know About Scrub Island Resort, Spa and Marina – Hotel Review
Dreaming of a private island escape that feels worlds away—but is just a 10-minute ferry ride from reality? Let me introduce you to Scrub Island Resort, Spa & Marina. We kicked off our most recent trip to the British Virgin Islands here, and I can’t think of a better place to ease into vacation mode. Just a short ferry ride from Tortola, this private island feels like you’re worlds away — in the best way possible. What makes it special is the way it balances luxury with that laid-back, toes-in-the-sand BVI vibe. Think unbeatable island views, lazy mornings by the pool, and the perfect home base for exploring the surrounding islands. Whether you’re staying for a few nights or starting your sailing adventure here, Scrub Island hits just right.
Scrub Island is exclusively accessible to hotel and marina guests only, making it a great island to kick start your trip tot the BVI’s. I’d recommend a few nights here and then hopping on a sailboat charter to see all the little islands, and all of my favorite spots in the BVI: like the Baths on Virgin Gorda, Willy T’s, Peter Island, and Soggy Dollar on Jost Van Dyke (A MUST). But, if sleeping on a boat doesn’t sound like your cup of tea, you can use Scrub Island as your home base and go on day cruises from there! This is what we did for the Kenny Flowers 10-Year Anniversary Party this year, through Dream Caribbean Blue day yacht charters, and it was SO MUCH FUN!

Getting to Scrub Island
To get to Scrub Island in the BVI, you’ll book flights to Tortola (Terrance B Lettsome International or EIS). Most flights will connect either in San Juan Puerto Rico or St. Thomas, and from there, you’ll take an island hopper plane to Tortola’s small airport (we flew Cape Air). You can also fly to St. Thomas and ferry from there (or hire a private boat to take you from there to Scrub). Either way works great! Upon arrival, Scrub Island Resort will have someone waiting for you, and you’ll be chauffeured to their private ferry that will take you five minutes across the bay to Scrub Island itself. The process was quick and easy, plus the Jerk Chicken restaurant right next to the Scrub Island Ferry dock is SO GOOD! Definitely make sure you order some for your ride over.

Like all international trips, you will need a valid passport, proof of return or onward travel (i.e. your return flight booked), and you will also have to fill out an online immigration form.
Rooms and Villas
Scrub Island Resort offers 52 marina-facing guest rooms and suites as well as seven spacious villas that are perfect for larger groups (where we stayed, and I highly recommend!!!!). We stayed in the gorgeous six-bedroom Spinnaker House that sleeps 12 people. The views speak for themselves. Every accommodation is outfitted with teak wood furniture, a fridge, complimentary Wi-Fi access, and Elemis toiletries. The hotel rooms face the marina and have a great location nearby the pool, and I HIGHLY recommend the villas for a group – our villa had room service, a beautiful infinity pool and ocean view, and it was sooo nice to come ‘home’ to each day!
Right now, Scrub Island is offering an exclusive deal for Jetset Christina/Kenny Flowers followers! Use the discount code “KFFF” for 25% off plus breakfast for two daily!!!!
Amenities
The amenities at Scrub Island are great! The only thing I would say is to remember that once you set foot on Scrub Island, you’re officially on “island time,” meaning the service is not going to be as fast-paced as you’re used to back home. So sit back, relax, and take in the views!
Below is a list of amenities at Scrub Island for all guests:
- Marina
- Spa
- 3 Island Restaurants
- Fitness Center
- 2-story pool/jacuzzi tub with swim-up bar
- Water trampoline
- Kayaks
- Snorkel Gear
- Golf Cart transportation
- Private beach
- Airport Transfers
- Market/Dive Shop – this was so great! You can get coffee and a breakfast sandwich here in the mornings, and even provisions to grill out at your villa!
Scrub Island for Families
If you’re wondering whether Scrub Island is family-friendly — the answer is definitely yes. My toddler absolutely loved the two-story pool and waterslide. Let’s just say we clocked plenty of hours there. It’s the perfect setup for parents who want to lounge in a poolside chair with a piña colada while the kids wear themselves out on the slide.
The resort’s quiet atmosphere, walkable layout, and calm beaches made it easy to relax and enjoy the island at our own pace. We’d spend mornings splashing at the pool, followed by easy lunches (hello, grilled cheese and fries!) and sunset dinners where no one batted an eye if a toddler decided to dance mid-meal.
If you’re a parent looking for a mix of barefoot luxury and family ease, Scrub Island delivers. It’s proof that traveling with kids can still feel chic, memorable, and actually fun for everyone!
Activities on and Around Scrub Island BVI
The resort fee of $30 per person per day allows you access to kayaks, golf cart rides around the island, airport ferry transfers, and one resort activity per day! In my opinion, the best way to spend a day on the resort is to head straight for North Beach where you can lounge in a beach chair and sip their killer Pina Coladas or Dark and Stormies. They also have beach volleyball!
When you’re ready for a little more adventure, I hiiiighly recommend booking a boat day with Dream Caribbean Blue! Seeing the BVI’s from the water is truly the only way to experience these beautiful islands. We loved their 4-bedroom Catamaran (which fits 12 people comfortably). There’s nothing better than sipping rosé as you sail from one island to the next, am I right?

The Food at Scrub Island
There are three onsite restaurants at Scrub Island, and they are all fantastic! During our stay, we typically did a casual breakfast of toast and eggs at the house, then ate lunch and dinner at the restaurants. We mostly went to Donnavan’s Reef, which is located right next to the pool and serves up casual, yet tasty fare that will please even the pickiest of eaters! We LOVED the Coconut shrimp, Conch fritters, local lobster, and grilled yellowfin tuna. YUM!
The other two onsite restaurants are Cardamom and Co (formal dining room open for lunch and dinner) and One Shoe Beach Bar located on North Beach! I loved the grilled chicken cesar wrap and One Shoe!
Day Trips from Scrub Island
Hop on board a catamaran and explore the islands!
Virgin Gorda
Approximately 45 minutes from Scrub Island by boat, Virgin Gorda is home to the infamous “Virgin Gorda Baths,” a beautiful National Park where huge Indiana-Jones-style boulders are strewn across an incredible white sand beach. This is a MUST when in the BVI’s, but be prepared for a little bit of a hike! And try to go on off days as it can get crowded!!!
Anegada
The northernmost island in the BVI’s, Anegada is known for its immaculate beaches and their LOBSTER!! This is the furthest BVI, but you can get there via a boat ride from Virgin Gorda. On the island, you can rent a moped and pop from beach to beach!
Jost Van Dyke
Ah, my favorite place in the BVI and quite possibly one of my favorite islands IN THE WORLD. The western-most island in the BVI’s that is known for one of my favorite bars of all time – Soggy Dollar Bar!! Dubbed ‘Soggy Dollar’ because the only way to get there is by swimming in from your boat!! (so your dollars get soggy!) This classic beach bar that invented the “painkiller” – a very famous drink in the BVI – and a bucket list for any trip there. We threw the most INCREDIBLE beach day here on our Kenny Flowers 10th anniversary trip!!

My husband Kenny with his soggy dollars at Soggy Dollar Bar
A few years back, we met up with our friend Brian Kelly here of The Points Guy – and he was of course rocking his favorite Kenny Flowers swim trunks, but we also brought him some of the new KF trunks to get him to match the #KennyFlowersSpringBreak crew!
