Where to Stay in Siem Reap: Jaya House River Park

Where to Stay in Siem Reap: Jaya House River Park

Wondering where to stay in Siem Reap while you explore Angkor Wat?

Tucked away just a few minutes outside of the hustle and bustle of the city is a luxurious 36-room boutique hideaway called Jaya House River Park, an absolute oasis along the banks of the Siem Reap River.

You’ll be drawn to Jaya House for its glamorous, art-deco-inspired vibe, its 2 grand pools, lush decor, and opulent breakfast buffet (featuring mimosas made from various fresh tropical juices every morning, yes please), but you’ll stay for it’s one-of-a-kind Cambodian charm.  A stay at Jaya isn’t just any normal hotel stay, it is truly a home away from home. Jaya House’s passion, heart, and its one-of-a-kind service make it the absolute best place to stay in Siem Reap.

Rooms range from $150-$250 per night and include a lovely breakfast (my favorite in all of my Cambodia trip!) and transportation to and from town and the airport.

During my stay with Jaya, I was fortunate enough to meet with the manager, Christian, a Netherlands ex-pat who has been an integral part in making a huge difference in the local community and Cambodia as a whole since moving there full time 11 years ago. Before opening Jaya House just last year, Christian founded the Made in Cambodia Market– a market that brings together Cambodia’s artisans and designers to teach them valuable skills and development. The main philosophy behind this market is to help create Khmer jobs; from the villagers producing the handicrafts, to the salespeople interacting with visitors. The market is free and open to the public every day from 12pm to 10pm.

The hotel has developed numerous programs to educate and give back to the community, and to build a brighter future for Cambodia. They are a leader in eco-tourism, and are proud to be Siem Reap’s first plastic-free hotel.  Many other initiatives that Christian has started with this hotel are similarly groundbreaking – for example, Jaya House was the first hotel to hire a female tuk-tuk driver as well as creating the first handicap accessible tuk-tuks.

Loved feeling like Cinderella in the Jaya House’s Tuk Tuk that took us to and from town (free of charge!)

Christian and Jaya House also started the “Refill Not Landfill” program- aimed at helping tourists consume water in an eco-friendly way during their visit. the plastic-pollution tourism creates is devastating – some 4.6 MILLION plastic drinking bottles are used by the tourism industry in Cambodia alone each year.  The Jaya House team has taken it upon themselves to change that statistic. At check-in, each guest is given their own aluminum refillable water bottle to use when out for the day, instead of relying on single-use plastic water bottles. On the back of each bottle, you’ll find all the places where you can get your bottle refilled with purified water throughout the city and around the temples.

I couldn’t recommend Jaya House more while you’re in Siem Reap. In a tourist city famed for it’s hundreds of hotels, there’s just no place like it. Enjoy your stay in one of my favorite cities!

XO,
Christina
