Where to Eat Safely in Bali with a Peanut Allergy – My Favorite Peanut-free Restaurants in Bali

Hi! I’m Christina, I am deathly allergic to peanuts, and I live in Bali.

And while my parents thought I was crazy when I first moved to Southeast Asia with my nut allergy, I have learned to manage it safely and get around the difficulties of traveling to Bali with a nut allergy.

The thing about Bali is there are SO many options for food. From Western to Asian and everything in-between, Bali has some of the best food in the world – meaning that there are DEFINITELY some great peanut-free options for you on your trip to Bali. But I know what it’s like traveling Asia with a peanut allergy, and it can be overwhelming and scary to know where to trust – and where NOT to trust.

So, I wanted to compile this list of 10 restaurants I eat at ALL the time in Bali with a peanut allergy – and where I feel very safe eating, and I think you should too. I hope it helps you feel more comfortable on your trip to Bali and also gives you some amazing food recommendations on the island.

Naughty Nuri’s

Nuri’s in Ubud (but only in Ubud!!!) is PEANUT FREE. They do not use peanuts or peanut oil in their cooking and they have world-famous ribs and amazing Indonesian sides like Nasi Goreng (which usually has peanuts in it) and Mie Goreng (Fried noodles) that are completely safe to eat – and I highly recommend!! This was also Anthony Bourdain’s favorite spot in Bali!!

Ji

This Japanese rooftop restaurant in Canggu is a go-to for me for eating in Bali with a peanut allergy. Sushi is almost always safe – and Japanese food in general. I love this spot!

Da Maria

Italian food is generally one of the safest peanut-free cuisines, isn’t it? I love this chic Italian restaurant in Seminyak – perfect for a date night, and I’ve never had a problem with nuts there at all. Super safe.

Sundays Beach Club

I’ve had many great meals at Sundays in Uluwatu, and I’ve always felt they understand my allergy and keep me safe. Highly recommend!

Sayan House

One of my favorite restaurants in Bali, I always eat at Sayan House and feel very safe with a nut allergy! I order the salmon and it is SO good. Highly recommend.

L’Osteria

Another peanut-safe Ubud spot I like is the pizza place L’Osteria – sometimes after sight-seeing around Ubud or hitting up the rice fields and waterfalls, you’re just craving a good ol’ pizza, right?? L’Osteria is a super cute new restaurant in downtown Ubud that has pizza that will put even ITALY to shame. It’s sooo good, you guys. And a cute rooftop too!

Boss Man’s Burgers

If you find yourself in Seminyak wanting the BEST casual meal or late-night in Bali – my fave spot is BO$$ MAN. It is SO GOOD, YOU GUYS.  Their burgers are handmade made with the best ingredients in house from 60-day dry-aged chuck steaks, premium quality pork cooked low and slow over 18 hours until juicy and tender, as well as 100% homemade sauces. This place is seriously to-die-for, and safe from peanuts! My go to is the Kim ‘Chi’ Un and the Loaded Fries. YUM.

WHERE NOT TO EAT IN BALI IF YOU HAVE A PEANUT ALLERGY

Kynd Community – This is the cafe that nearly killed me when they didn’t list on their menu peanut butter as an ingredient in a smoothie I ordered, and despite knowing about my allergy, they put a spoonful of peanut butter in my smoothie (!!!!) I took not even a sip when I realized what had happened. I spent the night in the hospital, but am okay. They claimed they were “really busy” at the time making the smoothie and it got lost in translation with the kitchen. But peanut butter wasn’t listed as an ingredient. I was so confused. Just goes to show, though – you have to be careful who you trust, and maybe avoid overly busy or peak hours. I don’t tell that story to scare anyone – because, seriously, I feel SO safe eating in Bali now- but only in the places I can trust – and I think it’s important to know the ones you can’t trust, as well.

This was so very helpful! Thank you for sharing your experience in Bali with a nut allergy. I also have a severe peanut and tree nut allergy so Asia has always been a challenge for me. My last trip was to India where I landed in the hospital due to my nut allergy. Your recommendations are very helpful! I plan to get out to Bali by November and I will definitely try the recommended spots. Thank you!
