My Favorite Mexican Food in SF: Don Pisto’s

You guys. I found it. The ULTIMATE Mexican restaurant. dps22

The perfect, thickest, warmest tortilla chips. The best, freshest, green tomatillo salsa. The chunky, farm-to-table guacamole. The authentic & mouth-watering menu. The loud & fun atmosphere.

Housed in a discreet building in North Beach with no outside signage, Don Pisto’s gives Mexico a run for its money with its inventive-yet-classic Mexican menu filled with all your faves like tacos and ceviche, but complete with gourmet entrees like their broiled lobster and the pollo asado.

What to order:

The lobster. Every time. It’s around $48 but easily feeds 2 people, and they’ll give you all the fixins to create your own out-of-this-world lobster tacos. The garlic cilantro butter is so good you could eat it by the spoonful.

The grilled Monterey calamari. Oh my god is this good. Charcoal grilled with lime, radish, and

Insiders tip:

Brunch it. With $18 bottomless mimosas/sangria/margaritas (yes, you can mix and match all day), this is one of my favorite brunches in the city. Their breakfast burrito, with the homemade warm flour tortilla & perfectly spicy chorizo and eggs is the perfect hangover cure or an amazing addition to your boozy brunch.

Reservations

Taken by phone for groups of 6+, otherwise, put your name on the list and go take a stroll around North Beach, one of my favorite neighborhoods in the city. ( 415-395-0939, Don Pistos )
