A Weekend of Relaxed Southern Luxury at the Fearrington House Inn in North Carolina

A Weekend of Relaxed Southern Luxury at the Fearrington House Inn in North Carolina

The Fearrington House Inn, a Relais & Châteaux boutique luxury hotel located 10 minutes outside of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, blends sophisticated luxury with southern charm in a cozy-chic farmhouse. It’s more than an inn, it’s an experience. Fearrington House is the perfect celebration getaway for Southerners looking for a staycation to get away from it all, without going far, or for out-of-towners visiting students at UNC or Duke and looking for a completely unique, luxury hotel that is unlike anything you’ll find on campus. It’s also perfect for UNC alums (like me!) coming back to Chapel Hill for a weekend and wanting to be just close enough to campus, but tucked enough out of town that you really feel like you’re on vacation.

Wearing my favorite fall/winter dress – shop here

The Fearrington Inn lies on a 640-acre converted farm in Chatham County, North Carolina. The original farm has history dating back to 1786, but the recent village was built about 40 years ago. Today, an inn, spa, restaurant, deli, meeting rooms, special event venues, boutique shops, and even a beer garden complete the village, surrounded by acres of gorgeous gardens and rolling pastures.

With just 32 rooms, you’ll often feel like you have the whole place to yourself… and it only takes a couple hours here to feel right at home.  You’ll wake up to sweeping country views of Fearrington Village, and its Instagram-worthy black-and-white Belted Galloway cows just outside your window. The highlight of the day might just be the inn’s breakfast, which takes place in the dining room and feels like Southern home cooking at its very best. I’m still dreaming about the fresh buttermilk biscuits every morning. They are the best I’ve ever had (and I went to school in the South!).

Let’s talk about the food for a second. The Fearrington Inn House Restaurant, is world-class. You wouldn’t necessarily expect such incredible food from a non-assuming country farmhouse, but this restaurant’s innovative seasonal menu, with its focus on local farm partnerships as well as ingredients direct from its onsite garden, and to-die-for wine list, could easily be found in a top restaurant in New York City or San Francisco. While there are many amazing places to eat in Chapel Hill, dinners at The Fearrington House Restaurant will be the highlight of your stay in the Research Triangle. Also, be sure to plan for a cocktail at the bar before dinner. It’s beautiful!

There’s also a lovely afternoon tea each afternoon, that I definitely recommend doing. The ambiance, the tea, the bites to eat, all add up to an absolutely delightful afternoon.

True to its Southern roots, this five star Fearrington Inn prides itself on service that goes above and beyond. Each member of the staff knows your name, and is at your service for anything at all you might need. During my weekend at the Fearrington, I was going to the UNC football game, and didn’t have time for my favorite eggs, fruit and a buttermilk biscuit breakfast in the restaurant, so the Fearrington Inn packaged up an entire decadent breakfast for me to-go, so that I could take it with me (!!!) Not only that, but when I left the hotel, I managed to (of course) leave behind a few items in the room (I blame it on the constant travel – I’m always leaving things behind!! It’s terrible) and the hotel, no questions asked, packaged them up and mailed them to my home for me.

There are definitely many regulars here at the Fearrington, whether they come every year on their anniversary, or occasionally for dinner at the restaurant, and you can bet that the hotel remembers every single one of their names and stories. The staff here is dedicated to making every guest feel like the VIP that they are, and I absolutely love that.

And then there’s all the little touches in the room that go into making it feel like a home-away-from-home. Homemade truffles are placed on your pillow each night, and there are modern conveniences like an iphone speaker dock, a steamer for your clothes (!!!!) and a towel-warming bar. The cozy fireplaces, super-soft hotel robes and huge bathtubs all leave you feeling ultra-relaxed, and ultra-pampered. And may make it hard to ever leave the room.

I visited in the Fall, which was an absolutely gorgeous time of year to visit North Carolina. The leaves were changing, the brisk fall air filled the village, and the landscape was just gorgeous. I can imagine it’s beautiful any time of year, but I feel like The Fearrington House Inn is especially wonderful and cozy in the Fall and around the Holidays. I also spotted a small, gorgeous wedding on the Saturday we were in town in the Fearrington Barn, lit up by a thousand Italian lights – it was just dreamy.

Enjoy your stay in Chapel Hill, North Carolina! It is one of my very favorite places in the world 🙂

XX,

Christina
