5 Tips for Hassle-free Holiday Road Trips

With Thanksgiving just around the corner, everyone in the country has somewhere to go and some place to be. While road trips are easily one of my very favorite ways to travel, they can also cause a lot of stress when you’re not prepared. So, here are my 5 key tips to a hassle-free, perfectly-planned holiday road trip!

1) Break it up.

I like to plan my stops ahead of time on road trips so that I have something to look forward to along the way. For example, this Thanksgiving, my mom and I will be road tripping from San Francisco to San Diego together, and I’ve already picked out a lunch restaurant in San Luis Obispo, a killer view spot in Big Sur, and a dinner spot in LA along the way that I’ve been wanting to hit. Having these milestones along your trip will keep you goal-oriented, refreshed, and will help make the road trip less of a means to an end and more of a vacation in itself!

2) Two words. Killer Playlist.

I love working on my Spotify playlists long before I hit the road. Having great music makes 8 or 9 hours fly by. My go-to playlist title? Traffic Jams.

3) Pack snacks!

As fun as it is to stop and stretch your legs on a long trip, it’s also important to pack a cooler full of drinks and healthy snacks to keep you from getting too hungry (or let’s be honest, bored) on the road. My favorite is a big bag of homemade popcorn, sliced fruits, and a cooler full of la croix and diet coke.

4) Drive with peace of mind with Allstate’s Good Hands Rescue® Service

Allstate has an amazing on-demand, pay-per-use roadside assistance service called the Goods Hands Rescue® and it’s accessible both online and via their free mobile app. From flat fixes to jump-starts, you can get immediate mobile access to convenient roadside services and pay for them only if and when you need them. So you don’t have to worry about paying for a subscription like with AAA. Talk about coming in the clutch.
You can download Allstate’s Good Hands Rescue® service as an app for free (on the App Store or Google Play Store), or via their mobile website.

Even better? On the busiest day of travel of the year, Wednesday, November 23rd (the day before Thanksgiving), Allstate is offering these roadside rescues for only $2 for the first 1,000 requests for standard vehicles* all day. That’s right, $2. All you have to do is access their promotion here.

5) Waze is king.

Waze is a traffic and navigation app that can, literally, save hours off of your drive. Accident on your route? It will re-route you around it. And since on a long road trip every minute counts, Waze will be essential in keeping you getting to your destination in record time.

Where are you all headed this holiday season!? Happy holidays & happy road tripping!
